TERNA was founded in 1972 and since then it has been actively involved in the implementation of a broad spectrum of public and private projects of considerable budget and complex know-how, such as the construction of Railway and Highway networks, of high - quality office buildings, hospitals, museums, resorts, hydro-electric plants, dams, harbours, industrial facilities, etc.
In 1999, its merger with GEK S.A. – a company with an already dominant presence in the construction sector – and the establishment of a strong overall Group was a significant contributing factor to the further development of TERNA.
Today, TERNA is the construction and energy company of the GEK TERNA Group.
The solid and continuous development of TERNA brings significant added value to the GEK TERNA Group and it is fostered by the efficient implementation of major projects in top quality and high reliability.
Presently TERNA is focusing on the completion of major and complex infrastructure and building projects that has already undertaken. Based on its solid domestic foundation, TERNA is now systematically and carefully strengthening its business activities in other countries.

Besides the fact that TERNA ENERGY builds its own RES installations, it also undertakes and constructs specialized public and private works, having been awarded the 6th grade construction certificate.

“ILIOHORA S.A.” was established in 2001 as a subsidiary of the technical company “DOMIKI ANAPTIXI ABETE” and engaged in the management and development of real estate assets and relevant construction projects. The company activated in the area of Project Management and successfully build the largest LOGISTIC CENTER in Northern Greece (DI.KE.BE.). It has also completed its development plan in a privately owned land, by the sea, with a total area of 10,000 sm in Sifnos island (the project’s phases included studies, granting of permission, market research, etc.).At the same time, the company proceeded with significant research efforts for the development of countryside houses, such as in Tzia, Arahova, etc. The company obtained satisfactory market data and was close to the purchase of own land with the purpose of real estate asset development in those areas.
Finally by employing the appropriate technical and scientific staff, the company was granted with a certificate in order to operate as TERNA S.A.'s technical company, belonging also to the GEK Group of Companies.
At the same time the company kept intact its corporate autonomy, whereas after electing a new Board of Directors on 11/8/2002, it made further dynamic steps in order to establish its position in the sector of Technical Construction Companies. It must be noted that the company has placed a special emphasis on technical works.
For this reason, it was granted with a 4th grade certificate (according to the new classification order in Greece), which allowed the company to target infrastructure works and construction of buildings.
At the same time, the company was granted with a 3rd grade "green" certificate and thanks to its scientific staff (including agriculturists, architects etc.) obtained a significant specialization in "green" projects. Currently, it is involved as either direct collaborator or indirect contractor in several "green" construction projects relating to the Athens Olympics (OAKA, SEF, TRAM, BEACH VOLLEY, OLYMPIC VILLAGE, etc.).
Thanks to its activities as well as its abilities in the area of "green" projects, the company has become one of the most dynamic players in this business. The company's activities are characterized by the following:
Collaboration with the best Greek and foreign companies in planting and maintaining any kind of vegetal material.
Significant know how in the creation of unique green areas (athletic green areas, transplanting of large trees, application of special irrigating systems, etc.).

Apart from activating in the construction business, the company continues to engage in the real estate business, placing emphasis on the construction of countryside houses in tourist areas or in areas located near the sea (independent house complex in Faros Sifnos, countryside house complex in Zemenos Arahova, etc.).

STROTIRES constructs and trades sleepers from reinforced concrete.
The production unit is installed in Trikala and the basic sleeper the company constructs is the German B-70, which is in accordance for high-speed railways.
Technology is German, whilst their specifications are in accordance with those of O.S.E (the Greek railway organization) and the German Railways.
Since 2001, more than 400.000 sleepers have been produced and been installed in O.S.E 's network.
The capacity of the plant exceeds 200.000 sleepers annually.
TERNA participates with 51% in the company, whilst 49% is owned by EDRASI PSALIDAS.

GEKE A.E.B.E. was established in 1987. The need to create a factory of wood constructions in order to cover every requirement of a simple or specialized building construction - in terms of time and quality - led to the establishment of this company. For the above reasons, the new factory was organized and operated by utilizing specialized personnel and equipment, along with the knowledge of international regulations. Currently, the company possesses know how in specialized wood constructions. The company acquired its know how by undertaking and implementing various projects such as office buildings, hotels, houses, and Athens and Thessaloniki Music Halls.
The company's business purpose is presented below:- The production and trade of any type of wood or iron constructions.
- To undertake and implement any type of construction projects - for the account of third parties or not - in privately owned or third party owned real estate assets.
- To undertake and implement any type of construction projects / or conduct studies, and to offer technical advice.
The company possesses privately owned production facilities in Bogiati, Attiki. Its facilities are located on a land with a total area of 1,778 sm at the 23rd km of the National Highway Athens - Lamia. The consortium in which GEK participates has signed the concession contract with the Ministry of the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works of the Hellenic Republic to build and operate the "Central Greece toll road (E65)".
The road measures 231 Km in total and runs north-west/south-east through central Greece, connecting PATHE (Patra-Athens-Thessaloniki) toll road and the Egnatia motorway. The highway comprises two sections (see map):The Central Greece segment, to be built entirely by the consortium, measures 174 Km.The other segment, which measures 57 Km., will be built by the Greek government and transferred to the concession company.

GEK S.A. participates with a percentage of 99,94% in the company «HEIRON S.A.», which has undertaken by virtue of a concession contract with the Municipality of Volos, the exploitation of a multi-storey Garage of 161 spaces with a ground floor for commercial uses on Ogl and Kontaratou Streets in the Municipality of Volos for 50 years.
The Garage has been operating successfully since June 2006 whereas the ground floor has been leased.
